So I’m going to have to start this post with a slight warning. You are about to see a lot of posts featuring copper pipe. I had some extra left over from the copper lamp that I did a little while back and have been wanting to try a few projects utilizing it. So these last two weekends I have been experimenting with copper pipe. And I am pretty excited to share the fruits of my weekend labor. First up, a simple DIY towel rack!
We have absolutely hideous towel racks in our rental and I have been wanting to replace them (or at least one) for some time and now in one of our bathrooms we have this rack and the ugly one stowed away in the attic. :)
- Materials
- 1/2 inch copper pipe //
- 2 Wire pipe hooks //
- Pipe cutter //
- Wire Basket (I found this one for $3 at Target) //
- Gorilla Glue //
1. Line up the copper pipe under the wire basket and mark the pipe about 3 inches longer than the basket. Use the cutter to cut the pipe on the mark.
2. Place some gorilla glue on the side of both hooks. This will help it stay secure to the basket.
3. I actually ended up hanging up the basket while the glue was drying because the gravity helped the hooks stay where I wanted them since they didn’t sit very snug on the wire.
4. Place the pipe in between the two hooks. You can also add some gorilla glue as pictured in between the hook and pipe to secure it.
5. Hang up the wire basket rack using one or two nails.
I absolutely love this. Brilliant idea! Looks like a fun (and surprisingly simple) project!
Thanks so much Jamie! It really was easy- took less than 30 minutes to make!
