The Cutest Christmas Lights (DIY Globe Lights)

December 2, 2014 ·

DIY globe lights! Cheap and cuter than the store bought kind | A Joyful Riot @ajoyfulriotGlobe lights have become so popular and it’s easy to see why, they’re adorable! The clear ones are so cute for party decor or diy marquee lights and it’s getting easier and easier to find them in stores. But, a few years ago that wasn’t the case and that’s when I created these magical little twinkle lights. Even now, though, they still have their place because they are so much cuter than the multi colored ones I’ve been able to find on store shelves.

DIY globe lights! Cheap and cuter than the store bought kind | A Joyful Riot @ajoyfulriotPlus these lights are actually a lot cheaper than store bought ones that currently run at about $13 for a strand of 25. Theres no reason why a strand of 100 of these lights should cost ya any more than $20.

    Materials

  • Strand of lights //
  • Ping pong balls //
  • Drill //
  • Hot Glue //

Any ping pong balls will work but you’ll find the best value in beer pong balls. Plus these usually don’t have logos on them and the material is softer so drilling the holes is easier. Ebay is a great place to find them. You can usually get 144 for around $10!

Drill a hole in each one and use the drill bit to pull the intend back out of the ball. If you know where you’re hanging the lights then it’s a good idea to place them there first and then put the balls on but attaching them first shouldn’t be any problem either. Then use a little dab of hot glue to keep them all in place and you’re ready to have the cutest house on the block/town/universe.

For that reason, I probably wouldn’t use them on my tree but I’m the kind of person that likes my lit allll day so if that doesn’t sound like you, you’re good!

DIY globe lights! Cheap and cuter than the store bought kind | A Joyful Riot @ajoyfulriotI always get so many compliments on these lights. For several years I owned a little business that I hung these up at and people looooved them. The bright, bold, poppiness of them just cannot be beat! Trust me! You will not regret bringing these in to your Christmas life.

Everybody hangs lights on the camper awning when we’re camping at the river. These would look so cute and different. Thanks for sharing. : )

This is just the most awesome idea ever! Thanks for sharing this. My daughter is getting married outside this fall, and after dusk, these, in white will be amazing hanging from trees.

This is so great. I can’t wait to do it. You didn’t mention if you painted the balls of if you can find them in colors. What type of paint would you recommend?

    Thanks

Thanks Julie! No paint, I just used colored lights so when they’re pluged in the colors show up!
