A few months back we saw this really beautiful pyrite jewelry box at Anthropologie. Now, Machelle and I adore everything at Anthropologie and would even say that it is our favorite place ever. But some things there are a bit pricier than I would like (definitely the case here) and sometimes a DIY version is very doable! As soon as we saw this one we thought it would be a great Anthropologie knockoff!
Here is the original, $1,498.00 jewelry box:
- Materials
- Acrylic Box (I used this one) //
- 2 Amethysts (I got mine at the National Museum of Natural History but you can find them at several ebay and etsy sellers) //
- Gorilla glue //
1. You want to pick two gems/minerals that are close in size (especially width). Use super glue (gorilla, E-6000, etc) to glue the first one to the middle top of the acrylic box.
2. Wait for the glue to partially dry and then open the lid and glue the next gem to the middle, directly under the first one.
Wait for the glue to completely set (usually 24 hours) and then start using your new jewelry box! And $17 is a lot better than almost $1500.
