A while ago I was eating a pop tart and I looked at it and thought “this is adorable.” They’re covered in frosting and colorful confetti-like specks and I decided it looked very party-ish so I wanted to find a way to incorporate it into a birthday other than just serving pop tarts on a plate (mmm not so cute..)
These cake toppers are perfect because they’re not only colorful and cute but they’re edible which is basically the best thing you can add to a cake!
- Pop Tarts (I think Blueberry flavor has the cutest colorful specks but Strawberry is also cute) //
- Knife //
- Skewers or toothpicks //
This is a really simple tutorial but it does take a little patience and maybe some practice! The frosting on these things is hard and it does not soften no matter how you heat it (or any way I could think of to try at least) so it cracks very easily. The way to go about this is slowly, softly and in a saw-like motion with a sharp knife.
I first cut a rectangle. Then go in and make the cuts for a letter. You do not want to remove any of the parts until you’re done outlining your letter because it’s helpful to have that extra to hold on to while you’re cutting.
Once they’re all cut out, you can insert thin skewers or toothpicks slowly up into the middle of each letter. That’s it!
Straight edge letters are much easier! But the curves are possible with some careful cutting. Either way, I think these are super fun. It’s like a whole new level of candle licking!
Is it weird I want to make this for myself and write Hez? Haha, these are so cute and clever!
Thanks for tutorial!! love it
