Animal Cookie Banana Pudding

Animal Cookie Banana Pudding

Have you ever been to Magnolia Bakery in NYC? The first time I went I just had a cupcake and was not super impressed. It was good but not amazing. But the second time I went I got their banana pudding and it is to die for. So yummy. I’ve been wanting to try to make it at home for a while and finally found a recipe that looked really good.

This recipe is adapted from that and I also subbed the vanilla wafers out with animal cookies. The non-circus kind – which I hardly ever buy because the frosted ones are just so good. But I thought these would be fun to try and they made a good substitution! They get softer in almost the same way vanilla wafers do and just make the dessert a little extra fun for kids.

And I can say that Pierce liked it a lot! He even came in mid-shoot and snuck a taste!

Balloon Lion

Balloon lion diy

This is another fun quarantine craft for kids! It would be perfect for a day spent talking about animals. I’ve definitely stopped being strict with a schedule or keeping with a theme all week long now that we are on week seven of being home. But I still think having a theme for a whole day or afternoon helps focus craft time and learning!

Also, adding a balloon to any craft makes it feel a little extra festive. Plus, if you are running out of space to house all the kid crafts you have been making this has the bonus of being a bit temporary and only lasting two days or so.

Balloon Dog Sponge Painting

April 29, 2020 ·

I was trying to think of fun sponge painting projects for my toddler and I wanted to create one that was just a little bit cuter than a lot of sponge paint projects I was seeing. But I also had to keep it simple and easy! Enter this little balloon dog made from cutting out ovals from a sponge!

And I think this came out just about right. Except I still can’t convince my one-year-old to follow directions. Once I give him paint all sense goes out the window and soon paint is everywhere including all over his body. Seriously, painting his body is his favorite thing right now. However, I am still convinced this would be perfect for a slightly older toddler. And the prep is so quick – just cut a sponge into two ovals (you could even get away with using one oval size for all of it).

Narwhal Toilet Paper Roll Craft

Narwhal Toilet Paper Roll Craft

Narwhals are such cool animals! They look like unicorn whales – but their tusk is not a horn, it is actually a canine tooth that comes out of the left side of the jaw through the lip! It also is more common in males – only about 15% of females grow a tusk. I did not realize that before making these – so I guess these narwhals are males! But you don’t need to tell your kids that – you can just tell them you are making unicorn whales. Except that narwhals are real, not imaginary like unicorns!

Pom Pom Rainbows

April 24, 2020 ·

Rainbows are everywhere lately – from sidewalks to windows spreading cheer during this pandemic. They are the ultimate symbol of beauty and joy after sorrow.

For kids, creating rainbows are also a great way to practice colors, and if they are older throw in a science lesson talk about how rainbows are created! If they are younger, creating with pom poms is a great sensory material and a good way to practice their motor skills.
