My house didn’t have a visible address anywhere!
Maybe this isn’t the first thought that bothers most people, but to me this is a big deal. I used to be a pizza delivery driver (literally still my favorite job to date) and the worst thing in the entire world was not being able to find someones address number. Some houses don’t have any, or they were painted on the curb and have rubbed off or they’re not lit up at night. All of these things were very frustrating for young me. Of course back then, we didn’t even have smart phones or Maps to tell us just exactly where the house should at least be, so I really relied on actually seeing that number!
Either way, I have held onto this notion that every house should absolutely have an easily identifiable address number. I seriously think it should be a law! haha! Or at least for people who will ever have something delivered to their house. A ticket-able offense if you don’t have one I say! :D
I am ashamed to say that we have even ordered pizza a couple of times while living here and I truly felt terrible that it wasn’t obvious which house was ours. So I knew I needed to change this immediately! Since my house is also tucked back off the road and there is no curb, I knew it needed to be something larger and more decorative and lately I’ve been playing around with cement products so I thought up these fun large numbers that I knew couldn’t be missed!
Adding a fun coat of pink paint also gave these a little umph that I just love but the numbers could easily be made without any paint and just left as a more industrial cement look!
Theres also all the freedom in the world to choose whichever font suits you best. I love the idea of a more blocky, pixelated font if you’re sticking to the industrial look. But I went with just a bold sans serif and it suited my needs perfectly, plus the molds weren’t difficult to make with so few decorative elements.
These numbers are really large, but the size is totally up to you! The instructions are the same no matter the size you’ve chosen.
I also love the idea of using this tutorial to create your family name! That is another sure-fire way to make sure your house can be found :) and if you go the letter route, you can purchase paper mache letters at the craft store (I have never found numbers but maybe they exist?) and just remove one side to create your molds rather than making them from scratch. What a simple craft that’d be!
You could even use this method to make a word or name for a party you’re hosting. What to point the way to the movie? Or emphasize the name of the person being celebrated? This is perfect for either. Find all the instructions and step-by-step pictures in the tutorial right here!
