There is no better way to break up the winter blues than with celebrating the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Last year Greg and I were able to go to Atlanta for the first time and visit the Martin Luther King, Jr. National Historic Site which includes his birth home and Ebenezer Baptist Church where he and his father served as pastors. If any of you ever make it to Atlanta I highly recommend a trip there. There is a great museum that chronicles the American civil rights movement but most importantly there is an overall feeling of hope and joy there.
Of course there are many wonderful quotes from MLK that I could have used for this print but right now these words really speak to me. This quote reminds me that the only way to combat hate is with love and it is the responsibility of each of us to heed these words and make the world a better place.
In addition to being a holiday today is also a day of service and there are tons of events across the country that you can all participate in! Check out http://www.nationalservice.gov/mlkday to search for MLK Day opportunities near you!
