I was already convinced that I belong to the greatest generation ever. Not to make anyone feel bad but seriously there was not a better time to grow up than the 90’s and early 2000’s. My peers and I are young enough to have technologic know-how {some of us ;)} but we also remember what it was like to have to go to libraries to write research papers (gasp!) and to have to play outside more than we watched TV.
And, as far as I’m concerned, no decade as come close to the 90’s in terms of amazing music. Every single genre really nailed it. I remember watching our older siblings who were teenagers at the time and thinking they were living the absolute funnest life ever and I think most of that was because they were riding around in Jeeps with the tops off blasting Ace of Base.
But if I didn’t already think I had good enough reasons to be thankful to be alive during this time, I absolutely would after witnessing the birth of an awesome holiday via one of the all time funniest television shows. Galentine’s Day.
The day before Valentine’s Day set aside to celebrate your girlfriends?! Genius! I don’t feel like I have tons of them but the ones I do have, I love like family. And I think they need a special day to be celebrated! So I got together with one of my very favorite gals in the world and we decided to celebrate Friday the 13th as well, since it happened to be the same day this year, by incorporating black kitties into our little party. It was also very fitting for us because we grew up together absolutely loving kitties! Heather had a lot growing up, I was endlessly jealous from my cat-less house and now we both have sweet rescue cats that hide from our visitors.
I am so excited that we have little girls the same age to grow up together and, even though they’ll be wrong, I hope they also feel like they are growing up in the most awesome generation ever. And if not, at least they’ll have each other! And me, to bred a love of 90’s music within them. :D
Pastel hearts and black cats was our theme so we dumped happy, colored candy all over the place, surrounded ourselves with chocolate and foil heart balloons, and dressed our treats up as kitties!
My favorite, cotton candy, made an appearance and the candy bracelets reminded me of one of my favorite Valentine gifts I ever received. 10 years ago, when we were sophomores, my now-husband gave me like 20 boxes of Hot Tamales (love me some cinnamon!) and this cute glass slipper full of the coolest candy necklaces ever. At the time, I was super into them and wore one every single day. Somehow he found this mix that had a necklace each of heart shaped ones and star shaped ones and flower shaped ones. Seriously. I was in love (still am!!)
I know black cats and Friday the 13th usually have an unlucky rap but we just decided our day would be lucky instead!
I bedazzled some simple paper cups using this tutorial and these kitty silhouettes. I bought some fortune cookies un-relatedly and when I opened one I thought “Hey! That looks like a kitty!” So I used my edible food coloring markers and drew little cat faces on them. Good luck fortune cats!
I cut little diamonds from black construction paper and inserted two into a mini donut, leaving just a triangle showing to make another kitty treat. Black cat donuts. Mmm Mmm Mmm!
One of the best parts of this party was it was pretty much all from the dollar store! I found all these cute treats and colors and balloons at Dollar Tree. Woo hoo!
The pinatas I made here and of course I had to bring them to this party!
And more donuts! Oh boy, Dunkin Donuts. Their holiday flavored donuts always get me.
And you know what else gets me? These lovely little ladies. My all time favorite gal here, Stella, had so much fun with Heather’s little Kenzington and even though she’s only 1 month older, she is practically twice her size! lol
Are you kidding me?! How sweet is this hot mama/daughter pair!? I love them!
I hope you had a great Galentine’s Day and if you missed the memo, be sure to celebrate it next year ok? Grab your daughters, you sisters, your best friends and do something just for you cus the gals that are there for you deserve to be celebrated too!
You are the cutest! Oh my gosh, I just can’t even explain how much I love it all. Such a fun day and I keep thinking about how cute Stella and Kenzie were playing together haha. Here’s to the best Galentines Day and many more to come!
P.s. Speaking of Hot Mamma, you are a knock-out! And those shoes are beyond incredible!
It seriously was THE BEST! Like any day with you!! I’ll try to keep Stella from reaching for Kenzie so much next time lol :)
