I couldn’t be a bigger fan of oversized bows on babies! And with this tutorial, they couldn’t be easier to make! Excuse me while I spend every spare moment Stella gives me whipping up one of these in every color…

1. Organic cotton knit gives the best results in my opinion, however that isn’t what I used on this pink one and I’ve made a few from all kinds of fabric so really any fabric will work! You will need 2 strips 3″ wide and 46″ long for a 6-12 month old baby. Add or subtract about 2″ to the length for younger or older tots. You don’t necessarily need a big enough piece of fabric to get that all in one strip, you can sew them together but it will look more professional if you don’t have to do that :)

3. Sew it right sides together, leaving an opening about 3″ for turning it right side out. Iron it and sew the opening shut!

It’s as simple as that! Sweet little {aka giant} baby headwraps!

Tie a big ol’ bow atop your little one’s big ol’ cheeks and then make one to match every single outfit she has!

Love. This is the easiest tutorial I’ve come across, do you have a recommendation for getting the perfect knot so it doesn’t twist the fabric?

Hi Melissa, thank you so much for sharing this tutorial…the perfect bow for a perfect little one and she’s just darling.
Did you have to measure her head or is this a standard size for up to what ages?….I also love her shoes please share where you got them (^_^)

      Thanks so much Pam!
This bow is 46″ long and still fits her great, she’s almost a year old now and has always had a big head for her age so I’d say that size is appropriate for a 6-12 month old baby. Add or subtract about 2″ to the length for younger or older babes.
      Hope that helps!

Hi there, I love this and with a baby girl on the way i’ll definitely be making lots of these! I have noticed that with some knit, it’s “floppy”-er, so I was wondering what material you used for this pink one? I want the bow to hold shape.

    Thanks :)

Hi Michelle! Congrats on your baby girl!!
For this bow I actually just used a regular 100% cotton. There are pros and cons to this. It does make this cute, sturdy, crisp bow but, since there is no stretch, it doesn’t stay on quite as well. As your babe wears it throughout the day, it may loosen a little and fall down.
This has never really been a problem for us and stays on about as long as a stretchy bow (since my baby grabs at them after not too long anyway :D) but it could bother you, idk! Just something to be aware of.
I love organic cotton knits most for knotted headbands like this because they’re thick, soft and stretchy!

Hi! Love the head wrap! I was wondering if you can go into more detail about step 3. You say to leave about a 3″ opening, but does it matter where or is it better in one specific spot. Also when I turn it inside out and stitch it won’t the stitches show on the good side?

    Thank you,
    Krystal

      Hi Krystal!

It really doesn’t matter where it is, just personal preference. If you leave it right about the middle then it’ll be on the back of the head and not too noticeable. Or try leaving it about 30″ in and it should end up around the knot, but that depends on your baby’s head.
I never think it looks bad stictching it shut as long as you use matching thread but you could also stitch it by hand to hide it even more. Google search “invisible stitch” for some tips on how to do this :)

      hope that helps!

So sweet of you, thank you!
I wish I had a pattern for the dress (or that I could even make that!) but I just bought it from Baby Gap last year. They pretty much always carry similar styles. :)
