A Joyful Riot

A Large Gathering of Happy Things

Current House Updates

bright colors and white craft room | A Joyful Riot

We moved in to our new house oh only about 8 months ago and I’ve yet to get a single room where I want it décor-wise. But with a one year old, being a full time student, this blog and all the side projects we have going I’m not being too hard on my self about it! As long as I host a party every few months, I’ll bust out some projects right before it and get a little bit done! :)

Really though, I’ve been making slow progress where I can and I’m so happy with how things are turning out! Stella’s room is almost complete, my craft room is bright white and organized and I just painted the kitchen and living room last week! I thought you might enjoy a quick little tour through and see where the house is at currently.

My animals may make an appearance along the way too :)

I knew from the beginning that I wanted to paint the living room gray. I love gray and I knew it would go well with all our furniture.

I have my favorite turquoise couch (that I hand painted!) at one end of the room but the majority is full of these brown leather ones:

Of course they’re not my first choice for the most-seen room of my home but they were a gift and they are super comfy! We’re always thinking about what we might want to replace them with and when we’ll do that, but as it is now, that’s not my top priority! I like the brown and gray and I think I have a good sense of where I’d like to see the room end up.

Hopefully wood floors are also on that final list but again, we just don’t know what our immediate future looks like so who knows!? I do love the gray I chose though. It is Cool Ashes by Behr. Its the perfect intermediate shade of gray. sometimes its a little more purple than I would prefer but overall, I’m happy with it! And also I’ll never ever ever repaint that room ever again. Not matter what. I’m truly not a fan of painting. And sure, all those windows provide gorgeous lighting and save a lot of paint but taping off was a nightmare.

(Above is our adopted dog, Batman. She’s a girl. And literally the sweetest animal on the planet.)

Enough of the complaining about paint! My kitchen is huge and bright and I love it! I especially love the color I painted it!! It’s Glidden Grey Leaf and it is the perfect combo of aqua blue and gray. It melts perfectly with the surrounding colors (the gray from the living room and the cream accents) and it isn’t too bright. I truly do love it!

I also adore this light! It took me three months to find one I liked and I eventually stumbled upon this baby on Amazon of all places! I was so excited! I kept seeing the similar cage pendents on Urban Outfitters and I loved them but my husband insisted on multiple bulbs for this location. I kept thinking “I wish they had that light with more than one together…sigh…” and then it happened! Can you believe that!? Fate.

My craft room is one of my favorite spaces. When we first moved it, I immediately painted it. I knew I wanted a white out room and so I got right to it. Unfortunately I chose Benjamin Moore Decorator White for the color and HATED it. It was so blue! Terribly blue! Wouldn’t even call it white honestly. So I finally went back to my initial instinct which was so add no color whatsoever and just used the Behr Ultra Pure White base. It instantly lifted the room and my mood!

I love having my supplies and props all clean and organized on shelves. It looks festive and pretty and is also easy to grab right off and use! (animal cookie marquee light DIY here)

I have a paper straw problem…this isn’t actually even my whole collection…yeah…

But, you know, it makes the space look fun, colorful and I use them all the time! So it’s ok. Right?

Of course my two favorite piñatas ever adorn the corner of my room. The big one may or may not be full of candy that I occasionally sneak out… The little one is from our friend Lisa.

Pictures of my family and some of my favorite prints hang above my workspace. Most of the prints are Thimblepress and the one in the middle is from Fictional Supply. Love that mantra and the genius design!

And now my so-far very favorite room in the house! Stella’s. I’m saving most of the details for a big reveal but I’ve just completed these shelves (tutorial coming next week!) and added a few sweet details.

I feel like getting your space decorated is never quite as fun as it sounds, there’s things like time and money to consider. But when you have a plan and see some of those details come alive it really is the best! Hope you enjoyed this little semi-tour. I’ll keep you updated!

You’ve definitely got some good progress! My favorite things: That couch, the light fixtures in the kitchen and the shelves in the baby room. PLUS, white & gray are two of my favorite wall colors to paint with. Can’t wait to see the rest!
