November 21, 2014 ·

Thanksgiving Pie Labels, Free Printable | A Joyful Riot @ajoyfulriotWell this week has sorta been all about pie huh? Obviously that’s not a bad thing and if you’re planning on celebrating the next closest holiday then you’ve probably been thinking a lot about pie too!

Thanksgiving Pie Labels, Free Printable | A Joyful Riot @ajoyfulriotIf you’re planning a pretty dessert table then these labels are for you! I made 8 labels with the most common kinds of pie on them. Grab them here:

Thanksgiving Pie Labels, Free Printable | A Joyful Riot @ajoyfulriotI loved how they looked glued on to wooden forks and then stuck in the pie but they could also be put on skewers, sucker sticks or glued on to card stock folded tents and placed by the pies instead of in them.

DIY Cardboard Pie Box

November 19, 2014 ·

DIY Cardboard Pie Box | A Joyful Riot @ajoyfulriotI love wood pie boxes. I think they’re so pretty! And while I certainly think we could whip one of those up, it wouldn’t be free, it wouldn’t be easy and it wouldn’t be a great way to recycle which this one is!

DIY Cardboard Pie Box | A Joyful Riot @ajoyfulriotWith Thanksgiving coming up, these boxes would be perfect for bringing your pies to your dinner plans or for sending your guests off with leftovers. Or use these boxes for neighbor and friend gifts this holiday season, because who wouldn’t want pie dropped off on their doorstep?

Autumn Leaf Backdrop

November 17, 2014 ·

IMG_2860IMG_2873In my perfect world, fall would never end! We’d just have constant-fall! Something about the air, it’s just different. Fresh and clean and all the holidays are coming and ewww exciting! I realize that it is sadly already ending and soon we will be in the throws of the most terrible reality of winter. How can such evil follow such perfection?!

IMG_2821Impending doom or not you need a wall covered in leaves in your life. I mean I knew I’d love it but I truly love it! It’s the most beautiful season on the wall, ok? I think it’s perfect for a party backdrop {behind your Thanksgiving pies, anyone?!} but I also think it’s perfect for just being a part of your decor, even if only temporarily. It’s gorgeous, it’s simple and it’s free so why not?

IMG_2824Go out and gather some leaves. Even if you’re not about to craft with them, I highly recommend this activity. It’s just good for the spirit. Makes you take a look around at the world and appreciate the changes it’s going through and the current beauty and just gets you out there into that wonderland that is fall. Do it.

Then find the prettiest ones and apply a round of tape to the back of it.

2Stick them to the wall, either in a pattern or just all over the place. The effectiveness of the taping method will depend on the finish of your paint. High gloss may not work so well with regular tape and in this case I’d recommend using a thicker double sided tape or command strips.

IMG_2740 copyYou can arrange them in to a pattern/shape or just set them up in a whole backdrop. I arranged them all over and in a leaf shape and I loved it both ways.

IMG_2757IMG_2810IMG_2815I just can’t imagine how pleased I’d be to see this loveliness at the Thanksgiving dinner I attended. I am pleased to see it every time I pass it at home! Yes, I am planning on leaving it up for…indefinitely…

IMG_2822IMG_2847IMG_2870IMG_2767 copy1IMG_2868I am so happy that I was able to gather all this loveliness within one block from my front door. How lucky am I? Annnd all the trees on my street are completely bare except for one bright yellowy-orange one and it’s in my front yard! I feel pretty special and happy about that.

Mini Thankful Cards & Envelopes | Free Printable Friday

November 14, 2014 ·

1Now I know that I’m in the minority here but there are a lot of things I do not love about Thanksgiving. I truly just cannot wrap my head around stuffing, cranberry sauce or even a roasted turkey {sorry! I just think plain roasted turkey is the worst meat ever!} But when I say I don’t really like Thanksgiving it’s not because I don’t appreciate the mentality behind it, the being thankful part. I fully back that pony! We all need a lot more thankfulness every day, I truly believe it would solve a lot of our problems and certainly most of our bad days.

So with that in mind, I whipped up these thankful cards and envelopes that you can print out and have your guests fill out at your Thanksgiving dinner. Have them write one or a few and then seal them to open next year so they can remember what they were most thankful for the year before and see how their lives or perspectives may have changed.

3You could also print them out and write a personal note to someone with one thing you’re thankful for about them and send it their way!

These could certainly be used for any time of year {but the pies definitely make more sense for Thanksgiving :) } so feel free to print em out and keep a little stockpile for sending notes of appreciation whenever the mood strikes or try writing one thing down a day for a month to get yourself in the habit of being thankful!
