DIY Outdoor Rug with Spray Paint and Stencil Revolution

August 9, 2018 ·

Make your own DIY Outdoor Rug with Spray Paint and Stencil with a little spray paint, and an awesome stencil from Stencil Revolution!

DIY Outdoor Rug with Spray Paint & Stencil

In the new DIY outdoor seating area I shared the other week, I featured this new rug which was actually a DIY! Outdoor rugs can be expensive and hard to find (just like indoor rugs!) and so when I saw this one at Costco earlier in the season for less than $20, I snatched it up! At the time, I had no idea it’d turn into this beauty! In fact, I had no idea it’d have such a lovely deck to sit on top either! As I mentioned in that post, the deck sort of just came together last minute and I decided that all the beautiful furniture I got, from Article, needed to have a prettier rug than just a simple ribbed gray one.

So, when I got an email from Stencil Revolution, I knew exactly where I would use one of their amazing designs! I knew it wouldn’t be hard to make my own DIY outdoor rug with spray paint and stencil! And it wasn’t! It only took me maybe 30 minutes and 2 cans of spray paint. Now I have a large outdoor rug, 6×9, for about $40! The price makes me happy, and the finished design does too!

DIY Outdoor Seating Area With Article Furniture

July 17, 2018 ·

Article’s new outdoor collection is modern, high-quality at a fair price. Our new floating deck features Article’s Daisy Lounge Chair from the collection to create a relaxed, bohemian vibe.

Ever since we moved into our house, I have had the dream of a deck. We have this grassy space right outside the sliding glass doors to our living room that is perfect for a deck but up until about 2 weeks ago, it was just looking really ragged and empty. Last year, I dreamed up a floating deck for the area but knew even at the time that it would not happen that summer, there were too many other projects to finish up! Honestly, I didn’t think it’d ever happen. But, suddenly, all the pieces aligned this summer and I decided to just go for it!

I’m excited to share more about this DIY deck in a couple weeks. I want to give it some time and use before I share how I built it, to see how durable it actually is. In that time, I’ll be testing it out by hanging out in my new outdoor seating area featuring possibly my most favorite chairs I’ve ever seen! Meet the Daisy Lounge Chair from Article.

Seriously if these aren’t the perfect mix of classy yet modern, durable yet gorgeous then I don’t know what is!! Somehow they seamlessly go with every type of decor: Midcentury. Minimal. Bohemian. They go with neutrals and bolds, pastels, and rainbows. I could literally incorporate these chairs into every party I’ve ever thrown and there has been a WIDE array of styles there!

DIY Colorful Stump Seats

June 16, 2016 ·

I shared my colorful brick backyard fire pit the other week but it wasn’t yet complete because it needed some seating! And I had the perfect solution. Just right up the hill from the pit, a tree had been cut down, probably some time last year, and was already in perfectly sized stumps for some stools!

I thought it would be fun to make the whole area more of a hangout location and fixture of the yard by adding some special permanent seating. So, even though I anticipate also bringing out our more comfortable camp folding chairs, these stools are a great solution for the every day and times we decide to have a quick fire without all the set up work!

DIY Colorful Brick Outdoor Firepit

May 26, 2016 ·

I have been DYING to get this firepit built! Can I just say how absolutely wonderful it is to have a backyard!? Stella and I LOVE being able to escape outside. We have been getting WAY too much rain here lately but when it is nice, it is so great to have space to wander around in. Stella loves to pick all the dandelions, which is great because we have a lot.

But other than wander around, there isn’t much to really do out in our yard yet. Being someone who loves to gather around a fire with friends, who loves s’mores and tinfoil dinners and just the smell of fire smoke, I knew we needed a fire pit! So this is the first project I’ve tackled on any nice day we’ve had and I’m so excited that it’s done and ready for some fire and cookin’ action!

Oversize Painted Cement House Numbers

May 16, 2016 ·

Large house numbers made from painted cement ajoyfulriot.com

My house didn’t have a visible address anywhere!

Maybe this isn’t the first thought that bothers most people, but to me this is a big deal. I used to be a pizza delivery driver (literally still my favorite job to date) and the worst thing in the entire world was not being able to find someones address number. Some houses don’t have any, or they were painted on the curb and have rubbed off or they’re not lit up at night. All of these things were very frustrating for young me. Of course back then, we didn’t even have smart phones or Maps to tell us just exactly where the house should at least be, so I really relied on actually seeing that number!

Either way, I have held onto this notion that every house should absolutely have an easily identifiable address number. I seriously think it should be a law! haha! Or at least for people who will ever have something delivered to their house. A ticket-able offense if you don’t have one I say! :D

I am ashamed to say that we have even ordered pizza a couple of times while living here and I truly felt terrible that it wasn’t obvious which house was ours. So I knew I needed to change this immediately! Since my house is also tucked back off the road and there is no curb, I knew it needed to be something larger and more decorative and lately I’ve been playing around with cement products so I thought up these fun large numbers that I knew couldn’t be missed!
