A Joyful Riot

A Large Gathering of Happy Things

Fourth of July Picnic

July 1, 2014 ·

Is there anything more summery than a picnic? On the Fourth of July no less? I’m not sure there is! And picnics don’t have to be a big production- just grab any blanket, a few treats, drinks, and sandwiches and you have an instant great time!

For this picnic, I put together a very simple meal of pulled chicken sliders, coleslaw, fruit and donut hole kabobs, mini pie crusts filled with yogurt, blueberries, donuts, and layers of angel food cake, fruit and whipped cream in ramekins. To top it all off- coke of course!

For the decor, I strung up two garlands (see this download) and three red honeycombs that I got from Target. Super simple but festive! Watch out for a tutorial on the picnic blanket, it is coming soon!

Also- you can download the flags that I used for the sliders here!

Cut em out, attach to skewers that you’ve cut to the lengths you’d like. Fill your box with decorative fill, I used crinkled up kraft paper, and any fireworks you’d like! Then stick the skewers in wherever they look best.

My boxes are filled with kid-friendly fireworks but feel free to make a more “adult” version to suit your needs.

Make sure you enjoy lots of fireworks this Independence Day week; they may be the best part of the celebrations, right!?

I love party poppers! And I love making them holiday appropriate! For the upcoming 4th, disguise your poppers as patriotic fireworks with this easy DIY.

Supplies:

  • Party Poppers
  • Assorted papers in blues, reds and patriotic designs
  • Tape
  • Double sided tape (optional)
  • Glue Stick
  • Scissors
  • Template

Gather your poppers and paper and cut out rectangles measuring 2.75″ x 4″ and cone pieces from the template, below.

Remove the foils from the poppers and tape the short end of the rectangle to it. *note: my photo shows the wrapper still on the popper but removing it will give better results. Then apply glue to the inside of the opposite side and roll it around the popper to secure.

1

Roll the cone making sure that the top is no smaller than the opening of the popper. Secure with tape. Either use double sided tape or glue along the top of the cylinder.

2

Then slide the cone onto the cylinder and enjoy your festive confetti streamer shooters!
