How to have an egg hunt while social distancing

April 10, 2020 ·

Before this week I almost forgot about Easter. I just was so consumed with everything going on with the global coronavirus pandemic I hadn’t thought about the holiday since I first bought Cadbury eggs in February. However, egg hunts are the best and I was really looking forward to this year since Pierce would be somewhat into running around and finding eggs.

BUT we can still have egg hunts while we are social distancing. We just have to be creative! Here are some low-lift ideas on how to still host an egg hunt while social distancing. Maybe you will even discover a new tradition that you love!

Window egg hunt – organize a window egg hunt with your neighbors or friends. Ask them all to cut out egg shapes and decorate them any way they want and hang in their windows. Drive or walk around and see how many you can find!

Indoor egg hunts – some variations on a normal indoor hunt are:

– Putting messages in the eggs

– Write actions and place inside eggs and whoever finds the egg has to do what is inside (hop on one foot, sing a song, skip, do jumping jacks, chirp like a chick, etc)

– Glow in the dark hunt: add glow sticks to eggs and host it at night

– Word search: each egg has a letter and at the end you have to figure out what words/messages they spell

– Puzzle eggs: put one puzzle piece in each egg and at the end of the hunt you all help put the puzzle together

– Color-coded eggs: divide into groups and each group can only grab eggs of their assigned color

– String: tie a string to a basket full of eggs and thread it all over the house, follow the string to the end

– Blindfold hunt: blindfold participants and give hot/cold clues when they get close to the hidden eggs.

Search and find photos – Hide eggs around your home, take photos of the room/s and send the photo to anyone participating. If they find all of the eggs in the photos give them a prize (maybe a mailed card or a gift certificate or just kudos)

Instagram egg hunt – similar to the above but post the photos on Instagram and tag them with a unique hashtag. Everyone who participates has to post at least one photo with the hashtag. Whoever finds all the eggs gets a prize (or bragging rights).

Virtual egg hunt – host an egg hunt virtually via FaceTime or some secure video app and take turns looking for eggs.

Easter Toddler Week

April 6, 2020 ·

Last week I talked about having a theme for each week at home. It really helps me when planning out each week and day to have something to narrow my focus. Pierce’s daycare has themes for the week that they structure crafts and learning time around and I love it.

Easter is this Sunday and it will be a much different Easter than we are all used to – no matter how you celebrate it or even if you don’t celebrate Easter at all. Living through a pandemic makes every day feel strange. But I still want to find fun ways for Pierce to experience the holiday since it is one of my all-time favorites. This is driven mostly by the candy selection but can you blame me? Reese’s and Cadbury eggs alone are just the best. Here are some ideas I am adding to my weekly schedule for this week. And you can definitely still buy candy and put together baskets for your kids! Just see how much Pierce loved his last year!

Books

I wanted to pick some books I already had that were Easter-themed. I am going to try and read these during every reading time this week. The closest I had were:

  1. The Tale of Peter Rabbit
  2. The Runaway Bunny

Some other great books that I found and would be great to include are:

  1. Llama Llama Easter Egg
  2. I Love You, Funny Bunny
  3. Little Blue Truck’s Springtime

Songs

  1. Hippity Hoppity Easter Bunny
  2. See the Easter Bunny

Pistachio Easter Candy Popcorn Mix

April 10, 2017 ·

The delicious Easter candy popcorn mix features the delicious taste of pistachio pudding and chocolate Easter eggs! Plus, it’s so easy to make! Perfect for Easter parties.
Easy Pistachio Easter Candy Popcorn Mix

As is the norm with our recipes, this popcorn recipe is super easy and perfect for your next celebration. Which for a lot of us will be Easter but this could just as easily be used for any spring gathering. As I was making it this weekend I was so happy because I finally feel like it is truly spring. I start to get a lot more active at this time of year it’s like my body is waking up from hibernation a bit and I am ready to double down on all of my fitness goals. This also means that I feel less guilty in indulging in all of the incredible Easter candy out there. Now you name me one holiday that has better candy than Easter. Blanking? That is because there is no holiday that beats Easter when it comes to the candy game. None. Cadbury eggs (mini and large), Reese’s eggs, Peeps (where the cuteness makes up for taste), Butterfinger eggs, Oreo eggs (they’re a thing!), peanut butter eggs, egg M&Ms, etc. It is just the best.

Now I am really wishing I had a stash of this candy right now.

Well it also turns out, to no surprise, that this candy is the perfect addition to popcorn. And this popcorn is possibly the best popcorn I have ever had. And I buy popcorn every time I am at the store. Machelle had this genius idea to add pudding mix to popcorn and this one uses my favorite flavor of all time – pistachio. As you will see you can also experiment with other flavors – caramel, vanilla, butterscotch, chocolate, and banana cream would all be delicious as well.

Easy Pistachio Easter Candy Popcorn Mix

This recipe could work for any occasion with other candy or no candy at all. But I decided to add my favorite Easter candy given that Easter is only six days away. So if you’re heading to a nice family dinner or an egg hunt this upcoming weekend make sure to bring this simple popcorn with you!

Easy DIY Rifle Paper Co. Easter Eggs

March 21, 2016 ·

riflepapercoeggs9

Rifle Paper Co. is the best, as I am sure you all know by now. so if there is any way that I can integrate their beautiful designs into my home, crafts, and holidays I am doing it (see this post for example)! The florals are just simply stunning. What is not the best is this crazy weather over the past week. It went from about 70 degrees to 50, to 40 and then even colder and rainy. I want spring back! As of now the forecast for Easter is rainy but I am hoping that changes as the week progresses. The issue with having an early Easter is that you run the risk of less than ideal Easter egg hunt weather.

However, if you do end up with a rainy day and an indoor egg hunt, at least you can be greeted by beautiful floral eggs right?
