A Rainbow Unicorn Birthday Breakfast

July 1, 2017 ·

A magical rainbow unicorn birthday breakfast with lots of colorful food ideas

Well, my baby is three! It’s true what everyone says–it goes so fast! But you know what else, something I don’t hear everyone say? It just gets better and better. I mean, babies! Babies are just the sweetest. And quite possibly nothing in the world surpasses those first few days at home when you are overwhelmed with a love you’ve never known. But babies are also super hard and especially Stella, as my first baby, was super hard. Becoming a mom was a big change, with lots of adjustments (you can read about the things that most surprised me here)!

I felt like as soon as she was about 1.5 years old, things got so much easier and since then she just gets funner, sillier, and more interactive. Her new phrases everyday absolutely kill us. She knows songs, she will entertain Otto if he is sad and I can’t get to him right away, she can run little errands around the house, she helps clean up, she is always up for fun! Playing, learning, and growing with her is simply the best.

Of course, the toddler years come with their fair share of struggles, and that part has not been over-exaggerated to me :/ haha, just last night we had…some serious frustration (read: she got a whole jar of Aquaphor on literally everything in her room when she was supposed to be in bed). But she makes up for it in cuddles, dances, and more sweetness than not. And one of my very favorite things about this little girl is how much she loves rainbows, unicorns, princesses, dress up, high heels, accessories, parties, balloons, games, and all things girly!

I can definitively say having a little girly girlfriend is everything I thought and hoped it would be and more! She comes out of my room daily with super high heels on (and walks exceptionally well in them haha!) and she get so excited over every new dress we get. She changes 20 times a day, is always up for nail painting, and loves all jewelry. This spring I bought her the cutest little dress from H&M with a unicorn print (you can see it here), and she squeeled so much and then wouldn’t take it off for 5 days (I did get it off and washed twice and she sill had her baths haha).

You know I am always so excited to throw unique and new parties and I had another idea for her third birthday that I was pretty excited about. Plus, I knew this would be the last year that I would really get to choose the theme. Next year, and every one after that, I’m guessing she will be pretty opinionated about it! But when I saw how much she loves unicorns right now, and this balloon, I was like “ok, why not just do something easy that she will love?” Even if it’s been done before, rainbow unicorns simply never gets old, right?

Vintage Citrus Floral Birthday Party

June 13, 2016 ·

Happy vintage citrus party with DIY details and fresh florals via ajoyfulriot.com

A couple weekends ago we celebrated our baby’s second birthday with our families. Stella had such a wonderful time, we had a yummy meal, and lots of fun even though we also got rained in and had a rather terrifying experience.

I’m serious. Terror ensued. Everything got set up and ready outside but just before we were about to sit down to eat, it started to rain (ugh) so we quickly moved the whole party inside. Luckily I had already gotten my pictures (phew!) and we had plenty of room to still set everything up all pretty inside.

But, just after moving everything inside and just before dinner was ready, we saw a bee.

Then we saw another one. And after we took care of that one we saw three more. After killing about 15 bees, things finally settled down and we ate our dinner, opened Stelly’s presents and had cake in peace. Now, maybe my telling of the story doesn’t sound so terrifying but it is because bees are the WORST. They are my literal biggest fear. Well, to be fair, wasps and yellow jackets and the like are the actual worst. I love bees because they make honey and honey is my favorite thing ever. But still, they’re all kind of similar and they all fly and can really hurt you and so that’s scary.

I’m terrified of bees because I’ve been stung (more correctly bit) on at least six different occasions and on every single one, I got 5+ stings. That’s right, I’ve been downright attacked by bees more times than I can count on one hand and for that reason, they are so much scarier than spiders, mice, snakes or anything in the ocean. haha JK, I refuse to get in the ocean because everything in there is so much scarier than a bee. I’m a wuss.

And, just so you know, the party didn’t end with no bee incidents. The birthday girl, our sweet and happy Stelly, got stung at the end. There was a docile bee crawling around on the floor and was blending in perfectly so we didn’t see it. It may have been hit before and didn’t die or it may have just been tired cus it was late at night by this point. Either way, poor Stella was just sitting there and then the saddest crying I’ve ever heard and my heard broke and now she is scared of bees too :(

Circus Animal Cookie First Birthday Party

June 25, 2015 ·

It’s here! Today I am sharing with you Stella’s first birthday party: my animal cookie, sprinkle-filled labor of love!

Animal_cookie_party-61

Are you maybe wondering where this animal cookie obsession came from?! Theres a story behind it actually!

When I was 9 months pregnant with my Stella, I had this day where all I could think about was those pink and white frosted Circus Animal Cookies. I hadn’t had them in a very long time so it was kind of weird that I suddenly wanted nothing but them but I could not get them out of my mind! This was probably the only time in my pregnancy I’d say I experienced those “pregnancy cravings”.

I was at work that day and my husband had driven me so I didn’t have a car to run to the store and find them and after work we had to rush and meet my family for pictures so no time to stop! That night I designed a birthday party invitation featuring the little treats but it didn’t quite fill the need, surprisingly ;) The next morning I still really wanted the cookies but we were rushing to get to my baby shower so we couldn’t make a stop. But then something magical happened!

I showed up to my shower that Malissa had put together and there on the favor table was a huge jar of animal cookies!! She had no idea I’d had this intense craving, she just decided they’d look cute at the party (and they did)!

Ever since then, I’ve had this fascination with those cute little cookies! Remember when I dressed Stella up as one for her first Halloween?! So what better theme than pink and white and sprinkles all over for her first birthday?!

I didn’t focus too much on the circus aspect of the party because, let’s face it, that’s been done before! But I did include a few circus/carnival elements like tickets on the tables and on these adorable confetti filled balloon wands! The invite was ticket shaped and there were tons of carnival games with prizes for the kids to play. You can purchase the invitation here.

Bohemian Glamour Outdoor Dinner Party

October 15, 2014 ·

IMG_0917IMG_0920I’m excited to share our birthday party with you today! This birthday was definitely, hands down, the best one in a long time! Miles beyond the last three at least. When you’ve spent your whole life sharing your birthday with your best friend, its just unnatural not to! Well, its unnatural to be apart at all really :)

IMG_0942Well luckily for us, this year could be different and so of course we had to throw a little party with our family to commemorate it! It was a simple dinner but I love how the presentation turned out.

IMG_1035We went with a glamorous, bohemian look mixing ornate glasses, copper accents, gorgeous printed papers and natural elements like wood and fresh flowers.

Mini Hooray Tags

September 24, 2014 ·

hooraytags5Sometimes you need little pennant signs trumpeting “Hooray!” For those times, we have these mini banners that can be used for SO many things.

    Materials

  • Polymer clay //
  • Acrylic Paint //
  • Paintbrush //
  • Awl or needle //
  • Knife //

hooraytags2

1. Take your clay and roll it flat using a roller pin.
2. Use a knife to cut little triangles out.
3. Use an awl or needle to create a little hole in the triangle. This will be for stringing twine through.
4. Bake the clay according to instructions. For me, this was 275 degrees for 15 minutes.
5. Use acrylic paint to paint the word Hooray on your tags (or any other word of your choosing!)
6. Use twine to string the tags onto anything.

hooraybanner_steps
These would make great gift tags or you could tie them around utensils or use them as napkin rings with some twine. I put them around a mason jar to hold the straws and around little vases!
