A Joyful Riot

A Large Gathering of Happy Things

A Mixed Gender Baby Shower Brunch

April 10, 2019 ·

Light neutrals, earthy elements and texture define this modern mixed gender baby shower. It’s perfect for boy/girl twins, joint showers, or gender neutral parties.

Last summer we welcomed two new babies into our family! Of course Malissa had her adorable little Pierce, and our brother and his family welcomed an adorable baby girl, Averie!

The whole family had planned a trip to our brother’s city a couple of weeks after Averie was born and Malissa was in town and still expecting so we decided it would be the perfect time to have a joint party to celebrate the babies. Malissa had her full-blown shower the weekend before and since there was a newborn present, we kept it to just a small and simple brunch.

First Birthday “Time Capsule”

June 22, 2015 ·

Cute and fun idea for your baby's first year birthday party! Time capsule where everyone guesses what they'll be like when they grow up | A Joyful Riot Cute and fun idea for your baby's first year birthday party! This was probably my very favorite part of Stella’s party! Well it might’ve been sprinkle covered everything.. or the cookie buffet… or how excited and cutely the kids played the games…or Stella eating her cake…Ok! It was all my favorite! But really I think this one will definitely mean the most to both her and I in the long run.

It was so fun having friends and family guess about what future Stella will be like! I loved thinking about it myself and I can’t wait (ok no I can totally wait!) for Stella to laugh reading them when she’s a young adult.

I chose to have Stella open it on her 20th birthday because that’ll be her golden one so it just seemed kinda perfect! But any age would work. 18, 21, graduated college…whatever!

People had a lot of fun filling these out and it made the whole first birthday party thing even more special. Plus she’ll have these little visuals of what her party looked like and the theme since I made the cards match all the other graphics for the party.

I’m not sure if I’ll bury it somewhere or just bury it in storage..probably the latter so there’s no less risk of something happening to it or it getting lost.

Also how cute is that confetti-filled balloon wand?! Our friend Lisa made them and they looked so cute throughout the party!

A Warm + Woodsy Baby Boy Shower

December 8, 2014 ·

kellieshower53 kellieshower54 My sister-in-law is expecting her second boy later this month! My nephew Conner is the cutest little 6 year old and he will make the best older brother! While we were in Idaho for Thanksgiving (which was delightful) we also threw Kellie a little baby shower. It was such a good time! Plus I had so much help from my mother-in-law and sister-in-laws Shayly and Angie.

I’m not entirely sure what to name this baby shower since it is a combination of arrows, trees, chalk, plaid, feathers and gold glitter so for now lets call it a warm and woodsy baby shower, ok? While planning it I knew I didn’t want to do a very common baby boy shower theme like mustaches or airplanes and I was inspired by Todd and Kellie’s family pics where they were wearing plaid. Plaid is not usually something I think of for party decor but it ended up complimenting the rest of the decor quite nicely.

For the main food table backdrop I used chalkboard contact paper. Chalkboard contact paper is one of my favorite things ever since it is easily removable and so easy to use (you just peel and stick). My other sister-in-law Angie drew the awesome banner and did the beautiful wording. Greg actually drew the arrows and he was pretty proud of himself.

Diva or Dude Gender Reveal Party

June 17, 2014 ·

1

One of our very best friends is expecting any day now! To celebrate, we threw her a little gender reveal party! I just love these parties, they’re such a fun way to include everyone in your announcement and of course any excuse to have a party is okay by us!

Instead of just pink and blue we mixed the colors up a bit by using deep sea turquoise and blushy coral. We wanted to use plenty of tissue paper tassels so that was also a feature on the invitation.

Of course, nothing goes better with tissue paper tassels than Geronimo balloons! I got mine here.

For food we had cupcakes, pudding parfaits, blueberries, grapefruit and powdered sugar donettes.

So what will it be, a tiny diva or a little dude?!

Before the reveal we all chose our guess with a prop and we snapped a group photo to document what everyone guessed.

Machelle’s Baby Shower Brunch!

May 12, 2014 ·

baby1

The other weekend I was able to throw a baby shower for Machelle (with some amazing help from my sister-in-law Deneigh, our great friend Amy, our mom and Machelle’s mother-in-law)! The weather was absolutely gorgeous and we had the best time celebrating the upcoming arrival of the baby girl with family and friends!

babyinvite-showerThe shower was outside and everything about the location was beautiful!

The theme was a baby shower brunch with decor in mint, coral and gold.

We had balloons and a welcome sign to greet the guests as they arrived.

welcome3Since it was a brunch, we had a variety of delicious and sweet breakfast foods! Machelle’s mother-in-law did ALL of the food and it was delicious.

food3 food5

We served muffins, mini quiche, fruit cups, mini cinnamon rolls, donuts, bacon on a stick, tarts, crepes and cupcakes. We both like sweets maybe a bit more than the average person (ok, a lot more) so when we plan parties we tend to go overboard on the sweet side!

foodcollage

We had a crepe bar that was so yummy!

dessert table2crepebar2Keeping with the brunch theme, we had milk and orange juice in small milk bottles (I got the straws here).

We used wooden cutlery in small bags (from here) and napkins that I made (see this tutorial) with some paper napkins for extras.

utensils1 utensils2For the food signs, I used glitter clothespins and signs I made:

Fresh flowers make every event better so we used a lot at the shower! The centerpieces were a variety of vases that Machelle spray painted gold, coral, and white. Ranunculus are my absolute favorite- they are just so ruffly and gorgeous so we used a lot of those, along with some mums, daisies, and wax as filler. We also had some vintage mason jars on the food table and favor table as well.

We also had a fabric garland, pom poms hanging from the trees, lanterns, and a coral frame for extra decor.

showerdecor2Our amazing friend put together these wood blocks for people to decorate for the baby! She covered them in papers in the shower color scheme and had vinyl letters and sharpies for people to use to decorate each block with. She even made an adorable box for the finished blocks to go in! She also put together advice cards and an advice book and had envelopes ready for people to write their names and addresses on.

For favors, I made earrings in the shower colors and mini kraft notebooks and put them in glassine bags and added a thank you tag and some glitter twine.
