14 Travel Hairstyles Perfect for Day to Night

June 9, 2016 ·

travel hairstyles roundup

Well hello summer! It really just sprung right up on us suddenly and I couldn’t be happier :) Growing up, we always took family road trip vacations every summer. Sometimes really long ones, like three weeks long, and sometimes just for a weekend. One of the things I remember very vividly about those trips is how hard it was to manage my hair! It can be rough to figure out how to manage changing climates and days full of sight seeing while still looking good for those inevitable photos.

So with summer here, and travel destination on our minds, we’ve decided to put together a list of some simple and fabulous hairdos that are perfect for any trip! You know those days where the beach turns into shopping turns into dinner turns into a party? Yeah, we’ve got styles here to cover those days! This list is full of pretty ideas to keep those locks out of your eyes but still present enough to make you picture pretty. Perfect!

1.Hats. Ok, I guess we’re not technically starting this list with a hairstyle so much as a hair accessory but seriously, hats are a traveling girls best friend because they can go over any hairstyle! They make windy days a non-worry and they are appropriate for beaches or chilly climates and everything in between.

2. Side ponies can be super fancy or really laid back, so they’re perfect for those traveling days in which you go from beach to party.

3. Wrap a scarf around your bun. Scarves can seriously add so much to a nothing ‘do and there are literally like endless ways you can tie them up there! Not to mention, endless scarf options on the market!

Our Favorite Spring & Summer Styles 2016 | AJR Favorites

May 12, 2016 ·

Roundup of the best Spring 2016 styles, inspired by Kate Spade Ok so I was looking at the recent New York Fashion week photos. And mostly what went through my mind was the following: “why?” “Wait, what is this?” “Who in the world wears this?” “This is not flattering” “Why are all these men dictating what women should wear?” and “but I love my skinny jeans!”. Then I was greeted with the completely stunning designs of Kate Spade.

Look how pretty the combinations are. I need to recreate all of these outfits. also, I know that this is the Fall collection but I think a lot of it can apply to Spring and it made me really excited to basically wear floral everything and I began looking for some fun wardrobe updates that I feel like I can actually start wearing now since it is May and getting sunnier! We know Spring officially started like a month and a half ago, but let’s face it, in most of the country you can’t really start relying on nice weather till its almost officially Summer! Although, full disclosure, I wore a bright floral shirt like 3 months ago because I wanted to wear Spring in February.

Creative Painted Floors That Will Inspire You

March 3, 2016 ·

ajrroundup_paintedfloorsOne of our absolute favorite interior features is the flooring and nothing quite beats a painted floor. Whether it is patterned or a bold color choice that stands out in the room there is no denying the beauty of a well-done painted floor. And most of these you can totally DIY! I understand if you have the luck of wood floors you may be hesitant to paint them but once you’ve looked at these gorgeous options you may soon be making your way to Home Depot.

11 Podcasts that will enrich your life | AJR Favorites

January 23, 2016 ·

caddySo we are in the midst of #snowpocalypse2016 over here. Which means we really do have a lot of snow, not a foot yet but it looks like it may get there. And it also means that all weekend we will be huddled under blankets, eating tons of food and binge watching Netflix (plus hopefully some reading too). It is still the beginning of a new year which means it is a time for a new regular feature! Every so often we will be sharing an “AJR Favorites” post to share with you our latest favorites whether that be books, design trends, music, tv shows, party ideas, party supplies, clothing, etc.!

To kick this off we are rounding up our current favorite podcasts. This may seem somewhat random to the blog but listening to podcasts while you are completing your latest DIY project is the best thing to do. I have been trying to listen to podcasts more often ever since I found a new podcast app that I love (Overcast which is free and has tons of great features). Apparently I did not share my newest finds with Machelle soon enough though because she recently told me she felt like she had been wasting tons her life before she started listening to podcasts and blames me for that. Harsh!

So, to make sure that I do not receive any blame from anyone else I am passing along both of our favorite podcasts for you all to check out. And we would love to hear from you – what are your favorite podcasts?

1. 99% Invisible – shorter podcast that explores design in our lives. Topics range from “the worst smell in the world” to superhero costumes.
2. BackStory – awesome history podcast that takes a current event as the impetus for exploring the history of the topic.
3. On the Media – media analysis show covering why we use the term “boots on the ground,” political correctness and more.
4. Planet Money – who knew economics could be so fun?
5. Serial – obviously!
6. RadioWest – based out of SLC with host Doug Fabrizio who is just fantastic and covers all topics.
7. TED Radio Hour – explores a particular issue or topic using past TED talks.
8. This American Life – had to include this one!
9. Welcome to Night Vale – community updates from a fictional town where anything is possible. I would have to describe this as delightfully bizarre.
10. StarTalk – an hour with Neil deGrasse Tyson, enough said.
11. Book Review by the New York Times – authors and critics discuss books, art, ideas.

What should we add to our list?!
