Animal Cookie Banana Pudding

Animal Cookie Banana Pudding

Have you ever been to Magnolia Bakery in NYC? The first time I went I just had a cupcake and was not super impressed. It was good but not amazing. But the second time I went I got their banana pudding and it is to die for. So yummy. I’ve been wanting to try to make it at home for a while and finally found a recipe that looked really good.

This recipe is adapted from that and I also subbed the vanilla wafers out with animal cookies. The non-circus kind – which I hardly ever buy because the frosted ones are just so good. But I thought these would be fun to try and they made a good substitution! They get softer in almost the same way vanilla wafers do and just make the dessert a little extra fun for kids.

And I can say that Pierce liked it a lot! He even came in mid-shoot and snuck a taste!

Circus Animal Cookie Pom Pom Craft

Pom Pom Animal Cookie Crafr

Pom poms are quickly becoming my favorite material for kid crafts and sensory play! There is so much that you can do with them – plus they are so colorful!

With this one, the pom poms are the sprinkles on cut out circus animal cookies. This is such a simple craft that is perfect for toddlers and young kids. I also had fun making them but my one-year old loved trying to glue each pom pom on his animal cookie giraffe.

DIY Circus Animal Cookie Family Costume

October 27, 2016 ·

DIY animal cookie costume @ajoyfulriot

Today we are revisiting two of our favorite DIY costumes – the animal cookie costume and the original sugar cookie costume! These two combine in the best possible way: A cookie + lion = lion animal cookies! That’s right, only the most delightful family costume you could imagine!

DIY animal cookie costume @ajoyfulriot

We love this family costume idea we are revisiting it again – see Machelle’s family two years ago! All of these costumes are quite simple to do so if you find yourself mere days before Halloween looking for a family costume we got you! But first, how awesome does this family look? That is my husband’s twin, his wife Shayly and their two kids Ellie and Mila. Thanks for being the best models ever!

This animal cookie costume looks cute at any age but especially on babies and toddlers! And after Machelle originally using it for Stella two years ago I am still obsessed with it. If you model yours after the Mother’s animal cookies (the best in our opinion) you just need all white or bright pink clothing.

Next, you need a ton of colorful circles for your sprinkles to sew on the clothing! From there you can decide what type of animal you want to do. The lion is our favorite because it adds cute ruffles and ears but you could do an elephant, giraffe, and more!

Next, get creative with the face painting and add some whiskers!

Look how much Ellie, my adorable niece, loves this costume! It is perfect for girls because it matches up girly sprinkles with the playfulness of dressing up as an animal. I still think it would be perfect for a boy though.

Animal Cookie Pumpkins | No Carve Pumpkin Decor

October 10, 2016 ·

Paint and free templates transform Halloween pumpkins into sweet and colorful frosted circus animal cookies. Fun no-carve idea for the whole family!

Animal Cookie Pumpkins are a cute and colorful no-carve idea for the whole family! | A Joyful Riot

It’s been so long since we’ve done an animal cookie project here and I am missing them! (Although this trail mix recipe wasn’t long ago)…But an actual DIY? A while. And since my favorite animal cookie project we’ve ever done was for Halloween (my daughter’s first costume) I thought it’d be fun to circle back around to the frosted treats for this Hallow’s Eve.

Actually, these pumpkins were totally Malissa’s idea! But I stole them for myself because…I wanted them :D My porch is just full of colorful and whimsical pumpkins this year and I thought these would fit right in! And they do!

We are definitely not going to make it around to any other Halloween decorations this year (baby due to come SO SOON!) so this year will be the fun, silly side of Halloween and absolutely none of the spooky. Which is totally ok by me! I am a little sad that I don’t think we’re making it to any pumpkin patches or witch festivals though…I was really itching for some in September but now that we’re so close to baby I just don’t think we can spare the time!

Anyway, this no carve pumpkin idea is totally fun for kids and adults alike! Who wouldn’t like pink polka dot pumpkins? Honestly, they’d be cute at just that. But add on some animal details and they’re really over the top! But not over the top difficult. Super easy! I even made all the animal paper parts available to you for free below to print out! So click through to see the how-to and grab the templates for a lion, an elephant and I rhino.

Animal Cookie Trail Mix Recipe

August 25, 2016 ·

Over-the-top sweet and pink trail mix recipe featuring frosted animal cookies, chocolate pieces, birthday cake pretzels, candy-like dried strawberries and more!

Even though I don’t feel like I have a great excuse to work on animal cookie projects anymore (because I no longer need them for my daughter’s birthday party) I still think about the cute little sprinkled confections often. They just hold a dear place in my heart. So when I heard about nuts.com contest for National Trail Mix Day, my mind immediately went to my favorite cookie, my mind immediately when to my favorite cookie. Even though trail mix is usually thought of as a healthy, outdoor-activity-appropriate snack, I just couldn’t resist making my mix all sweet and pink!

I like to make things that I know Stella will eat rather than things that are just for me. While she likes nuts and dried fruits so I know a more traditional mix would’ve been okay, I guess I was just feeling really nice and wanted her to have a snack she would absolutely love!

And, since pink is her favorite color (it kills me how this just happens. Like, she knows nothing about pink being girly. She isn’t surrounded by girly friends or cousins or anything! And yet, pink was the first color she learned, still the only one she always knows and gets consistently right, and always the color she chooses.) I knew she would love this snack mix. Psh, with cookies, candy, marshmallows and chocolate covered pretzels, who wouldn’t love it?!
