8 of the easiest maternity costumes ever! Free templates to make simple shirts so you can be carefree and comfy in your pregnant belly on Halloween.
Let’s face it, being super pregnant for Halloween may not be the most fun thing ever. All the activities seem to be a little less appealing when there is a lack of energy. Walking around the neighborhood trick or treating: not as easy or as enjoyable with that extra pooch. And costumes can already be stressful so add on all the pregnancy stuff and it may seem downright impossible! Well, never fret! We’ve created 8 of the easiest maternity costumes ever for you today!
Seriously, all you need for each of these outfits is a plain t-shirt and a little felt. We’ve included the templates for all the cut parts of the felt (and the cut files in case you’re lucky enough to be using a Cricut!) so there is no work coming up with the how. It’s already done for you!
These costumes are all about the belly! They require nothing beyond decoration of the bump which means, yes, you CAN wear leggings all day/night! Glory! Since the bump is definitely the cutest part of pregnancy, these costumes perfectly accentuate it, which I love.
All your faves are here folks! Donut, cookie, poke ball, fruit slices, disco ball, and a balloon! So not only are these easy, they’re super trendy :) I just couldn’t help including all this year’s favorites in this round up. And they were all just perfect for round prego bellies!
I’ll be the first to admit that I didn’t love posing for a bunch of photos (and subsequently posting them on the internet) while 37 weeks pregnant a.k.a. about to pop a.k.a. feeling really fat. But I just knew I couldn’t let this year pass by without doing some maternity costume DIYs! This is the only time I ever plan on being pregnant around Halloween (because I plan on this being our last baby!). So, it felt like a great opportunity to come up with some fun ways to dress the bump!
I love how little effort these are. Especially if you already have children, you know it’s hard to find time for your own costume, after stressing about theirs! So this is the perfect choice for Mommas all around! I am planning on having this baby before Halloween (although my due date actually IS Halloween) but I might still sport one of these for the holiday seeing as how I’ll probably still look 5 months pregnant. Oh postpartum joys! :D Oh well! This is literally PERFECT for that crazy time right after baby comes. I can throw on a shirt no matter how tired I am (in fact I’ll have to anyway…haha).
I was so VERY lucky to be able to use my brand new cricut explore for this project!! But, these are all super easy to do my hand as well. Nothing complicated to cut out and all the templates are available for free below! So don’t be intimidated. But do be jealous :P
Balloon Belly

- Heat bond ultra //
- Iron //
- Scissors and template OR cricut, deep cut blade. and cut file //

- First iron your heat bond to your felt and remove paper backing.
- If using a cricut, load it onto your mat, open this file. Set dial to custom materials and choose felt with backing from drop down menu. Load and cut.

- Try shirt on and find your belly button, mark it with a pin. Center balloon piece onto your shirt. Place length of ribbon under the knot part. Iron on high til adhered to shirt.
Donut Belly
- White t-shirt //
- Tan and pink felt (I used a 9″ x 12″ sheet of pink and 12″ x 12″ sheet of tan) //
- Assorted colors of felt for sprinkles (don’t need much //
- Heat bond ultra //
- Iron //
- Scissors OR cricut, deep cut blade, and cut files (below) //
- First iron your heat bond to all of your felt pieces and remove paper backing.
- If using a cricut, load tan felt onto your mat, Set dial to custom materials and choose felt with backing from drop down menu. Open this file, load and cut.
- Now load in your pink felt and cut this file.
- Adhere all the sprinkle colors of felt onto your mat next to each other and cut this file (you’ll need to upload it to design space and resize so its 5.5″ x 6.5″). You only need a few sprinkles of each color so you should be able to do it all in one step.
- If not using cricut, simply cut small rectangles for sprinkles. Cut a large circle from your tan felt (use a bowl for a template) and a small circle out of the center of it. Cut a slightly smaller circle from your frosting color/pink and the same size circle out of the center of it as you did in the center of the tan.
- Try shirt on and find your belly button, mark it with a pin. Center tan piece onto your shirt. Iron it in place. Center frosting over that and iron together. Place sprinkles and iron on.
Lemon, lime or orange slice belly
- Yellow, orange or green t shirt, depending on what fruit you want to be! //
- White felt (I used a 9″ x 12″ sheet) //
- Heat bond ultra //
- Iron //
- Scissors and template OR cricut, deep cut blade, and template //
- First iron your heat bond to your felt.
- If using a cricut, load felt onto your mat. Upload this template, resize so it’s about 11.5″ x 11.5″. Set dial to custom materials and choose felt with backing from drop down menu. Cut.
- If not using cricut, Print this template out and trace onto felt. Cut out.
- Try shirt on and find your belly button, mark it with a pin. Place your fruit slices around this point, in a circle. Iron to shirt.
Poke Ball Belly

- Black t-shirt //
- White and red felt (I used 9″ x 12″ sheets) //
- Heat bond ultra //
- Iron //
- Scissors and template OR cricut, deep cut blade, and cut file //
- First iron your heat bond to your felt.
- Cut each sheet in half so they measure 9″ x 6″ (you can do this before step one if you’d like)
- If using a cricut, load felt onto your mat. Match the two pieces together at 4.5″ (so red is on top and white is on bottom). Set dial to custom materials and choose felt with backing from drop down menu. Open this file, load and cut.
- If not using cricut, Print this template out and trace the top onto red felt and the bottom half of big circle and little circle onto white felt. Cut out.
- Try shirt on and find your belly button, mark it with a pin. Place pieces on shirt, using this mark as your center. Refer to photo for placement if needed. Iron them all in place.
Chocolate Chip Cookie Belly
- White t-shirt //
- Tan and brown felt (I used a 9″ x 12″ sheet for the brown and a 12″ x 12″ sheet for the tan) //
- Heat bond ultra //
- Iron //
- Scissors and template OR cricut, deep cut blade, and template //
- First iron your heat bond to your felt.
- If using a cricut, load tan felt onto your mat. Insert a circle as big as it will let you (about 11.5″ x 11.5″). Set dial to custom materials and choose felt with backing from drop down menu. Cut.
- Now load in brown felt. Cricut won’t let me share the file since it was an upload I made. So upload this template for yourself, resize so the template is about 3.2″ x 4.3″. Duplicate it three times. Should look somewhat like the below image:
- If not using cricut, cut a large circle from the tan felt (use a bowl if needed to trace). Print out this chocolate chip template and trace onto brown felt about 3 times, depending on how many chips you want. Cut out.
- Try shirt on and find your belly button, mark it with a pin. Iron circle onto shirt, centering with pin (remove pin before ironing!). Now sprinkle around the chocolate chips and iron them onto the tan cookie circle.
Disco Ball Belly
This one is the only one that is a little different from the others. But even easier actually! I used the adhesive foil for Cricut (here) but I also saw a 12×12 sheet of adhesive metallic paper at Michael’s. This option is not washable. If you want a washable version, use iron on foil or the glitter iron on for Cricut.
- Gray shirt //
- Silver adhesive foil (found at Michaels, or use this iron-on kind)//
- Scissors OR cricut and cut file //
- If using a cricut, load foil onto your mat, Set dial to cardstock (my custom setting for adhesive foil did not cut through). Open this file for the grid and cut. Then re-insert, open this file for the circle and cut again.
- If not using cricut, Simply cut a circle from your foil (use a bowl for a template) then use a ruler to mark a grid onto this circle and cut it into squares.
- Try shirt on and find your belly button, mark it with a pin. Start with the middle square of foil and place your circle onto the shirt.
