Floral Lemon Name Cards

June 30, 2016 ·

florallemonnamecard1

We are continuing with the citrus and floral theme with today’s post! Since I am convinced the best way to take an event from nice to super fancy is to include name cards today I am sharing a super easy way to greet your  dinner guests with bright lemon and floral!

But first can we just talk about how it is almost July?! And that the upcoming holiday totally just snuck up on us two? But don’t fear, we have done a ton of fun July 4th posts in the past two years so if you’re looking for last minute party ideas before you enjoy your fireworks check out these ideas: boom box, July 4th picnic, and xx. What are your holiday plans for the weekend? Greg and I are heading to New York with our friends to eat delicious food and see Hamilton! Well I will be seeing the show, Greg sold his ticket for a hefty profit which I refused to do. And I think I made the right decision. I’ll be sure to let you know how it is in person, I seriously could not be more excited!!

Now to the DIY!

lemonnamecards_steps

1. Cut your flowers just below the head. I used two to three flowers per lemon plus some leaves.

2. Place a small dot of glue on the left side of your lemon

3. Secure your flowers on top of the glue. Add leaves or other greenery to add dimensions.

4. Write your guest’s name in the middle of he lemon and place it on your plate.

DIY Faux Marble Kitchen Utensils

June 27, 2016 ·

DIY marble and wood kitchen utensils (spoons, spatulas, etc) using faux marble are a great decor item or gift! from ajoyfulriot.com

A few months ago Malissa was on a bit of a marble contact paper kick. She came up with a bunch of awesome projects using the stuff (I think my favorite was this lamp) and now I think it’s my turn haha!

Last week, I bought my first roll (actually I bought five) and did my kitchen backsplash with it! I love how it turned out and I was excited to have some bits left over. I’ll be sharing that backsplash project sometime in the next month, when the kitchen feels totally done and ready, but in the meantime you might see a few of these faux marble projects creeping their way into the blog.

Seriously, that paper is just too good. Here’s the exact kind I bought and I’ve been really happy with the quality. Its very sticky but is also easily repositioned and retains that stickiness. I feel like walls are one of the hardest surfaces for things to stick to and yet its holding up great on mine so far. And sometimes wood can be tricky too, especially with varying widths like these spoons, but it went on great and I think will hold up nicely as well! If you want to follow this super easy DIY, just click “read more” below!

Free Printable SUMMER FUN Party Pack!

June 23, 2016 ·

Pop art graphic summer fun printable party pack FREE from ajoyfulriot.comI haven’t had enough parties lately. And I haven’t had enough to make party printables which is my all time favorite activity! Alright, I just haven’t had enough time for anything lately except my kitchen that I’ve been remodeling. I am so excited to share it all with you hopefully soon!

And even though it has taken away from some of my more favorite past times, like designing and partying, I am SO glad I’ve put almost all of my effort into that these last couple weeks because it desperately needed it. Now it’s almost done and the whole house feels like a different place! It so much more light, bright, clean and everything you need a kitchen to be so I couldn’t be happier that is where my focus has been and it can finally be done soon!

So to make up for not getting in enough of all my favorite things (even though I really am enjoying the remodel and learning tons of new skills) I threw together a quick party pack that is appropriate for all summer fetes and FREE!

I absolutely love bold patterns and I absolutely love summer and FUN so I combined all of those things to make a bunch of fun graphic elements that you can print off, cut out and put together real quick! Seriously, I printed and did all the assembly on these items in maybe 20 minutes.

The best part about party printables is that your party basically needs nothing else at all and yet you look so totally put together and decorated! I love that this pack could be used for birthdays, bbqs, block parties, showers, anything really! So if you’re looking to have some FUN this summer, download this pack and have it on reserve to whip out any time you may need :) The files are all at the bottom of the post, click the “read more” button to grab em!

DIY Pretend Makeup Kit for Kids

June 20, 2016 ·

Stella LOVES to play with my makeup. When I’m getting ready sometimes she will swipe a carton of brow shadow without me noticing and it will take a minute of her being extra extra quiet before I see that she’s created a big ol’ mess on her face! Its adorable but also messy and wasteful and can be a pain to clean off. So I’ve always wanted to get her some pretend makeup to play with and keep her entertained.

However, I already feel like I don’t want my $40 chemicals on her face so I cannot imagine wanting whatever is in those $5 kits to be on her precious, soft skin. Plus, just because it’s “play” and “washable” doesn’t mean it won’t create a mess for me to clean up. So that really doesn’t solve any problems for me! The solution was to create this kit that’s full of all the essential makeup components but without any of the mess or chemicals!

That’s right, this kit has fake lipstick, fake eyeshadow, fake blushes and bronzers, fake mascara and even fake nail polish! None of it leaves the carton at all but her little two-year-old self is just as happy playing with all of this as she is with the real thing! She doesn’t even seem to realize that none of it goes on her (or my) face.

DIY Colorful Stump Seats

June 16, 2016 ·

Paint stumps for awesome outdoor seating or tables via ajoyfulriot.com

I shared my colorful brick backyard fire pit the other week but it wasn’t yet complete because it needed some seating! And I had the perfect solution. Just right up the hill from the pit, a tree had been cut down, probably some time last year, and was already in perfectly sized stumps for some stools!

I thought it would be fun to make the whole area more of a hangout location and fixture of the yard by adding some special permanent seating. So, even though I anticipate also bringing out our more comfortable camp folding chairs, these stools are a great solution for the every day and times we decide to have a quick fire without all the set up work!
